GUWAA expanding from u/w cleaning to demining

First mission: River Miljacka in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina celebrating 30 years anniversary of the Olympics

After the war in South Eastern Europe (Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Slovenia and Serbia) many of rivers and lakes has been filled by mines of many sorts, mostly shells from cannons and tanks. Some of this areas are settled by high population. The rivers and lakes are in the heat season mostly used by children and grown ones for swimming and relaxation. This areas need to be demined to avoid deadly accidents. Small children are very curious and most exposed for this danger.

GUWAA's SPEED Unit diving team is expanding from underwater cleaning of the seabed to locating the explosives in sea, lakes and rivers to their safe removal. GUWAA SPEED Unit team will together with the military and special police work closely to solve this problem in many countries. GUWAA is working now to get the special license from the governments to be able to perform this operations on their own. For now GUWAA is only allowed to locate and signalized the explosives device while the military is removing the devices.
GUWAA SPEED Unit will have own demining team by end of 2014.

Guinness World Record LogoWe want to thank everyone who participated in this year's Global Underwater Cleanup and Protection Day! Because of the bad weather conditions, many diving centers worldwide had to postpone the cleanup and we didn't succeed to set a Guinness World Record.
Next year we are going to organize the 3rd World Underwater Cleanup and Protection Day and we will attempt to set the record again!
